Huddleston, Erika
About the Artist
Erika Huddleston explores the fragile, fluctuating relationship between nature and the modern built environment through life-size, plein-air oil paintings created entirely outdoors.
With a unique background, holding a Master’s in Landscape Architecture, this Texas-based artist spends full days sitting directly on the ground, from dawn until dusk, immersed in pockets of "urban wilderness".
Her large-scale, 1:1 works document changing ecological processes in public greenspaces ranging from the Shoal Creek Greenbelt in Austin to Central Park's Ramble in New York City.
Rather than relying on photographs or memory, Huddleston records real-time shifts in light, wind, and vegetation, offering her canvases as a tactile, meditative data-collection counterpart to digital mapping. Each piece stands as an active, face-to-face invitation to disconnect from digital noise and reconnect with the natural rhythms hidden within our cities.
